University Policies
Before you begin work at East Carolina University, take a moment to review important policies related to your employment classification.
I-9
The I-9 Form is used to verify identity and employment authorization for individuals working in the United States. All U.S. Employers must ensure completion of the I-9 Form for each employee including citizens and non-citizens. East Carolina University utilizes HireRight to complete I-9 Verification. Following your acceptance of an offer of employment, you will receive an email from HireRight to complete section 1 of your I-9. This email also includes a list of the acceptable documents that may be presented at orientation to establish identity and eligibility to work. If you have any questions regarding your I-9 you may reach out to the Department for People Operations, Success, and Opportunity (POSO) at AskPOSO@ecu.edu.
New Employee Orientation
East Carolina University’s Department of People Operations Success and Opportunity provides a comprehensive New Employee Orientation program for all full-time and part-time SHRA, CSS, DMSS, Faculty, and EPS employees.
Your in-person orientation is usually held half-day bi-weekly on Mondays beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Building 283 (POSO Annex), Room 105. During this initial phase, the new employee will complete new hire paperwork, review Benefits options, and learn about key ECU policies and services.
Additional Orientations (BSOM/SODM)
Some employees will also be required to attend additional orientation sessions within their departments. Employees working for ECU Health may be required to attend the Brody School of Medicine (BSOM) Orientation. Employees within the School of Dental Medicine (SODM) will likewise be required to attend the SODM Orientation. Your employment offer letter will notify you if you are required to attend this additional orientation session and you will receive more information at new employee orientation including; date, time, location, and important contacts.
